Frequently Asked Questions

How do you use the Aroma THERAPIPE?
It's simple: Gently shake the salt pipe and place it in your mouth.  Inhale normally and do not try to force the intake.  Recommended use is 15-20 minutes a day.   You do not have to do it all at once. It is recommended you use your salt inhaler regularly. There is a salty taste the first few times you use it, but that will dissipate. You can read more HERE.

Is the salt inside your pipe similar to table salt?
No.  We went to great lengths to obtain THE salt that is used for Speleotherapy to put in our pipes (read more HERE). And we are the only ones that use this exact salt and are the only ones that will tell you exactly what is in our salt (Read about our composition HERE).

The Aroma Therapipe is The ORIGINAL SALT PIPE, the ONLY salt pipe that uses salt from European salt caves, where all the Speleotherapy (salt mine clinics) are located.

Cheap imitation pipes won't tell you what's in their pipes, so they may have table salt in them.

What is the small rubber valve cover on top of the pipe for?
This valve is there in the event you exhale through the pipe rather than through your nose.  The valve protects the crystals from the humidity and vapors created when you exhale back through the pipe.  It is best to exhale through your nose (that way all your sinuses get the benefits).

What are the different colored dots on the THERAPIPE?
If more than one family member needs the Aroma THERAPIPE, you can order different colors so that everyone uses their own salt pipe.  Use of the same THERAPIPE by multiple individuals is not recommended.

Why should I buy a THERAPIPE saltpipe instead of a cheap copy?
There are several major advantages the original Therapipe has over imitations:

How long does the Aroma THERAPIPE last?
The Aroma THERAPIPE typically lasts up to 5 years before needing to be replaced.  You cannot refill the THERAPIPE.

Should I use the Aroma THERAPIPE every day?  Can I use it more than once a day?
The Aroma THERAPIPE can be used as often as you wish.  It is an all natural material with no harmful side effects.

Why should I exhale through my nose after inhaling the salt pipe through my mouth?
By inhaling through your mouth and exhaling through your nose you deposit more salt into your respiratory and sinus passages.

Where can I store the Aroma THERAPIPE?
The mineral contents of the Aroma THERAPIPE should be protected from humidity; therefore we do not recommend storing it in the kitchen or bathroom, but in a cool, dry place if possible. A small exposure to humidity will not harm the salt pipe.

What is Speleotherapy?
Speleotherapy comes from the Greek word Speleo meaning cave, and essentially means prolonged exposure to the specific microclimate of salt caves, salt mines, and salt grottoes. There is a page devoted to this answer HERE, but the short version is this:

The therapeutic value of exposure to salt mines was first noticed by miners in Roman times.

Speleotherapy was first discovered by Polish physician F. Bochkowsky in 1843. Bochkowsky noted that salt miners seldom had respiratory diseases. Since then, Eastern Europe has gained a reputation for its salt mines, where many people go for the healing, antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal qualities of the cave's salty air. Here, the symptoms of afflictions such as asthma, inflammation of the respiratory tract, and various allergies can often be lessened or disappear.

Many countries, including Austria, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Russia, and Ukraine, have Speleotherapy clinics. On the Speleotherapy page there are links to some cave clinics.

Speleotherapy is now recognized as a highly effective medication-free treatment method.

What is Halo Therapy?
Speleotherapy or Salt mine therapy is being mimicked in more modern clinics and called Halotherapy or Halo Therapy. This has been around for decades in Canada and Europe and is helpful in treating for many respiratory problems, such as bronchitis, asthma, cystic fibrosis, coughs and sinusitis.

This term comes from the Greek word Halo, meaning salt, and is basically a therapeutic method based on Speleotherapy, sometimes using Salt aerosol, artificial salt caves, or in the case of the Aroma THERAPIPE a pipe that contains pure, natural salt crystals salt from European salt caves.

The natural dry sodium chloride in the air is the major curative factor of Halotherapy. It is believed that the sodium chloride provides a bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect on respiratory tract micro flora.

A modern Halotherapy clinic is the Speleotherapy Clinic in Toronto, Canada.

What are Halogenerators?
Halogenerators are devices that simulate the atmosphere of salt mines. In one sense of the word, a salt pipe is a halogenerator, but usually this refers to one of two devices that attempt to release salt into a room's air. Some use rock crushers to make small particles to release into the air and others use high wattage light bulbs to heat salt crystals.

We think a Salt Pipe is the best way to get the benefits of Speleotherapy because all the air is being passed over the salt crystals, and there are no micro particles inhaled.
